A Day in the Life

Yesterday, I visited monkava for the first time, with Kitaya-san (Tsubakuro), though I always wanted to but never could after having translated their appetizing menu as my first job.

monkava is a restaurant specialized in galette/crepe made with Shinshu-grown buckwheat flour, and cidre. The interior was cosy, chicly furnished and illuminated darkishly, which felt at ease. Mesmerised as if being in France (though never been there), I ordered the lunch set: a couscous salad as an appetizer; galette with asparagus and camembert; crepe with lemon and sugar butter; organic French cidre (+300 yen extra-charge). Though I am not a man of gourmet tastes, the quality of both meal and drink was quite high and I pretty much enjoyed the petit luxurious lunch after a long while. I must advise other people to give it a try too.

My big thanks to Miya-san, the (stoic) owner and chef, and Misaki-san, stuff and niemi owner.

After lunch, we, Kitaya-san and I, straightly went to Chez Momo, a confiture shop located along the Metoba river, by bicycle . After Kitaya-san left, I had a fantastic iced cafe au lait and was given some precious advice from Maita-san, and borrowed Chicano Batman cd (thanks K-go) with its awkwardly translated lyrics, and then I left, paying the charge.

Then, I dropped by Shioribi on the spur of the moment. Though having heard from Kitaya-san and Misaki-san, I somehow missed a chance, and it was my first visiting this time. The shop sells books, zines, cds and miscellaneous goods at the 1st floor, and the 3rd and 4th floors are used as the gallery space, all of which give multiple way of enjoying the shop. The owner, Kikuchi-san, is 4 years younger than me but nevertheless well-informed and reliable, and I heard that he was nicknamed as Kikupedia. I felt relaxed having a talk also with Misaki-san, who was there by chance, and Miya-san, who came by later on, and a nice cup of coffee and a banana scone.

As engaged in my occupation (though not busy yet) tending to stay indoors, I ensured once again how important it was to talk with others, after the end of the day.

PS: it was such a pity with the Football World Cup match. But, that simultaneous interpretation of Zaccheroni’s interview after the match was too XXX.. It made me quite nervous.
